A 3rd minute 40m penalty from Shane Murphy opened the scoring for Collidge at a sunny UCD Bowl yesterday. There was very little between the sides thereafter until Trinity beat the cover in the 32nd minute with a well-taken converted try for a 3-7 half-time lead.
The visitors quickly added to their lead with a second try (unconverted) in the 44th minute (3-12). Collidge did manage to reduce the deficit when substitute Ben Leahy crashed over for an unconverted try (8-12). Thereafter, despite creating many chances, Collidge could not turn these into scores and it was the visitors who finished the stronger by adding an 82nd minute penalty (8-15).
There can be few complaints from Collidge as Trinity produced power and pace when it mattered most … and the losing bonus point could yet prove valuable.
