Former UCD out-half Tim Foley punished Collidge indiscretions with an 18-point haul at a soaking Lansdowne road on Saturday. The difficult wet conditions saw both sides take a pragmatic approach, particularly with new players on board.
A trio of penalties from Foley gave Lansdowne a 9-3 interval lead. Matt Gilsenan landed a seventh-minute penalty for Collidge which proved to be our only score of the match on a long and unrewarding afternoon.
Three Collidge yellows didn’t help things but best on the day for Collidge were Cian Prendergast, David Ryan and Bobby Sheehan, who made a good impact off the bench having gained Celtic Cup experience with Leinster ‘A’.
Lansdowne’s tries eventually arrived during the final 25 minutes, UCD’s resistance broken by a fourth Foley penalty and a team barge for the line for a 19-3 scoreline. It was a decisive cushion and grew further with replacement hooker Boland muscling over for two closing seven-pointers.
