Metro Senior League Div 1A
UCD RFC 17 – 19 Old Wesley RFC
A try from substitute Evin Coyle early in the second period put just 2 points between the teams as Collidge went in search of a win against a well-organised and disciplined Old Wesley side.
It took until the 17th minute for the scoreboard to register points, a Wesley unconverted try (0-5) to which they added another on 22 minutes (0-10), this time converted (0-12). A third try for the visitors (converted) gave them a commanding 0-19 lead.
A Dan O’Donovan try late in the half was converted by James Tarrant (7-19) who also added a three-pointer shortly thereafter (10-19). Half-time: UCD 10 Old Wesley 19.
The second half wasn’t long under way before JT put sub tighthead Coyle through a gap to score beside the posts (17-19) much to the delight of Collidge’s unofficial match photographer Evin’s Dad Dominic, in the right place at the right time. Thereafter, some loose handling by Collidge and a resolute Wesley defence denied Collidge a possible winning score, although JT did put a penalty wide in the 75th minute.
