The wind and persistent heavy rain made handling conditions very difficult for both teams at the UCD Bowl on Saturday. Playing against the elements in the first period Collidge found it difficult to make any decisive incursions into the Young Munster half of the pitch until the final few minutes of the half when David Moran kicked a penalty. Young Munster landed three first-half penalties in the 28th , 32nd and 34th minutes .. the latter two scored during a Collidge sin-binning.
Half-time: UCD 3 Young Munster 9
Although Collidge had the better of the second-half possession and territory, breaking through the well-organised Cookies defence wasn’t easy .. nor was the understanding of some of the refereeing calls. Moran landed penalties in the 51st and 66th minutes (9-9) and Stephen McVeigh had a chance to win the match for Collidge with a last-play penalty attempt from half-way .. which dropped just short.
